The influential power of that which we value most. He kura whakaawe i ahau! Evoking the essence of undying grace, compassion and the need to know ourselves intimately on the deepest levels, so we may cultivate the courage to act in our best interests, to determine our own future. Not in a self-serving way, but so that we can fully embody all that we are and show up authentically in the world. A most honourable and courageous expression of our life’s purpose and contribution to our families, communities and causes.

This blanket weaves the pūrākau (traditional story) of Hinetītama’s transformation to become Hinenuitepō, a story which exemplifies the value of self worth and the power of self determination. Te Awe design elements reflect seasons of change, in direction and approach, with the endeavour to grow with purpose and resolve in order to become who we are meant to be.

The overall design for this blanket is inspired by kaitaka huaki, traditional woven flax muka cloaks which featured ornate tāniko (hand embroidered) decorative borders. Te Awe features a number of traditional woven patterns including niho taniwha, waharua, ara moana, aorangi and also features a stylised tōrua weave structure throughout the body of the design. Each motif speaks to the essence of our design story.

Wool blankets are among the most durable and desirable of all blankets. They're soft and warm, and are very difficult to stain or damage. Wool blankets are also very easy to care for and you don’t need to wash them often, in fact, it’s best to wash them sparingly and some guidelines recommend washing wool blankets once every three months.

Check out our product care page for further information on how to care for your blanket.
