Our first Limited Edition Collection for 2025 has long been cradled in the bosom of memory, buried deep in the soil and safety of darkness, binding intention and determination to spring forth as veins of kōkōwai and karamea (ochre and red clay pigments) throughout the earth, tracing our origins back together as people, to reconnect and recover a true sense of purpose, responsibility and interconnection.
So back we returned to the earth, te one i Kurawaka, to recalibrate to the deeper knowing of our shared purpose and remember our innate power, ability and propensity for greatness.
He aroha kurawaka. A love that inspires creation.
Our Māori creation narratives recognise Kurawaka is the birthplace of humankind, located between the thighs of the primordial Mother, Papatūānuku.
Perfectly formed earth and clay, imbued with divine understanding and endowed with the sacred power of creation, Kurawaka is a portal where dreams and things not yet realised begin to form. It is where the first woman, the first of humankind took her first breath and transcended anything that existed before. Tīhei, mauri ora! Hineahuone, the earth-formed maiden was brought to life.
E aro ki te hā a Hineahuone! Pay heed to the dignity of women!
The story of Hineahuone is a testament of our universal values, the most powerful source of energy for positive action; our human nature is to nurture life, to grow together and continue to create our future. This collection acknowledges the prime example of our humanness, our inherent nature to access deeper, greater dimensions of memory and thought, to create something new that did not exist before, and our common connection to each other.
This collection celebrates the creation stories that inform our world. Like Hineahuone, we were built for purpose, indeed our very human nature is to nurture life, to grow together and continue to create our future. Kurawaka is a reminder of our humankindness. Our interconnectedness, our inherent culture of care and the life giving principles that empower collective growth and intergenerational wellbeing.
This design story is shared across three Limited Edition blankets, Te Hā (a Hineahuone), Te Awe and Kauhou.
